* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional general snow accumulations of around 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible in favored locations such as the Upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Range. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. * WHERE...The Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, and Central Mountains. * WHEN...Until 5 PM MST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Winter driving conditions are expected. Traction law restrictions may be enacted. Information: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. AVWSLC * WHAT...The avalanche danger for the warning area is HIGH and could rise to EXTREME in some areas. * WHERE...For all the mountains of Utah and southeast Idaho, including the Wasatch Range, Bear River Range, Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau, Manti Skyline, the la Sal Mountains, and the Tushar Range. * WHEN...In effect from 6am MST this morning to 6am MST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Heavy snow and drifting by strong winds have created widespread areas of unstable snow and very dangerous avalanche conditions at all elevations. Natural and human-triggered avalanches are certain. People should avoid travel in all avalanche terrain and keep out of avalanche runouts. Avoid being on or under terrain steeper than 30 degrees. Information: Stay off of and out from under slopes steeper than 30 degrees. Backcountry travelers should consult www.utahavalanchecenter.org or call 1-888-999-4019 for more detailed information. This Warning does not apply to ski areas where avalanche hazard reduction measures are performed. |
